day for 3rd Cat and 4th Cat riders venue: Leigh village hall Sunday 6 March starting at 12.30 plus groups (of all ability levels) wanting to hone their capabilities in 4-up time trials timetable: doors open 12.00 noon group heads off 12.30 pm hall booking ends 4.30pm the plan: part one: involves again using a short 2.5-mile circuit that takes in the quiet straight stretch of road to the north of Leigh to look at: through-and-off riding at medium-pace holding a wheel, riding close to other shoulders through-and-off riding at race pace judging when you can work and when you need to recover at the back through-and-off riding in handicap groups hare and hound fashion . trying to catch the group in front part two: handling a practical situation where you are in a group of three and the individual who is the strongest won't come through and you are 1km from the finish line 2km from the finish line thinking about communication collaboration then sprinting for the line (as above) only now switched into groups of four with collaboration without collaboration 4-up time-trial groups Riders would use a different circuit, the one riders follow in Surrey League road races which lies to the south of Leigh as it is much larger (at 6 miles) and it contains a range of challenges such as a decent with a junction and bend at the bottom and a long drag to test ability to "keep it together" on the way up. For all: It is a requirement that riders wear a safety helmet. Map reading To get to Leigh, find the mid-point of the main road (the A25) running between Dorking and Reigate. There is a roundabout at this mid-point and if you head southwards from here, passing through Betchworth and crossing the river Mole, you then drive through fields for a mile or so before reaching a T-junction. This is Leigh and the hall is to your right after about 200m . it's right opposite the cricket field. John 18 February 2005 |
