Women's group - more winter dates

8 Jan Sat Newchapel
5 Feb Sat Crowhurst

timetable for both

doors open/ hall booked from : 12.00
aim to be on the road: 12.30
aim to be finished: 2.30
hall booking ends: 3.00

As Newchapel is the best of the three basic circuits for doing the cornering stuff, I've switched venues planned so that we go back for a second try (hopefully) in January - so that should get the date into Nicky Hudson's diary. Plus I must remember to take a broom to sweep some of the rubbish away at that second corner with all the gravel.

My thanks to everyone who turned up. Having a good "bulk" of numbers goes a long way to helping newcomers settle into an involvement in mass group riding, especially as several said they need to get used/more comfortable with riding close to other handlebars.

I think we got less respect from passing cars by not having the yellow training tops on, so they'll be out in future, even when you've all got waterproof tops on.

The plan for Newchapel stays the same:

new riders
riding in a bunch, getting used to being close to other handlebars
riding at the front
riding in a line
following another rider's wheel

after 30mins, we'll split into two groups
team riders
attacking before a corner
alone
as a pair
attacking out of a corner
alone
with a marker to follow
leading a team-mate into corner for that rider to attack

The venues

Two riders had big difficulty in finding Newchapel last winter. Here's some info to help:

you're looking for the area in the centre of the map, a rural area mid-way between Smallfield (which is east of Horley) and Newchapel, shown as being on the A22 (look to the west of Lingfield).

You should see a circle of brown roads… that's the circuit and the hall is on one of them.

If you find yourself at Horne Golf Club on Croydonbarn Lane, then just 50m away is a T-junction leading into Bones Lane. Turn into Bones Lane and continue for a mile until you come to a hamlet. The village hall is there on the right.

The map shows a yellow road with Horne Park Farm on one side of it and a couple of
building and a telephone symbol marked on the opposite side…. the village hall is one of those two buildings.

If you come from the opposite direction: leave the A22 at the roundabout, following the B2028 heading west towards Crawley. Take a minor road to the right in just 300m, follow it for 500m and at the T-junction go left. You'll find the village hall on your left in 400m.

It's on Crowhurst Lane. If you come from Crowhurst Lane End (traffic lights under the railway) and then drive parallel to the train lines for almost a mile, the hall is round the corner after the first right-angle bend.

If you come up from Lingfield and find yourself coming up a little hill with the church on your left, then just keep going and we're on the right in another mile, just after a row of council houses.
